Experiencing Christ, Offering Christ to Others

Senior Adult Ministry

By using the gifts God has bestowed upon us to serve others, we are serving God. The Senior Adult ministry opportunities here and in our community are numerous. Many of our members volunteer for ministries within the community, such as REACH of Jackson County, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Ramp Builders, and United Christian Ministries. Another great ministry right here in our church is our music ministry. The Chancel Choir (at the 11:00 a.m. service), and the Praise Band (at the 9:00 a.m. service) lead the congregation in hymns, music, and praise to God. See our Music Ministries at the bottom of this page for more information.

We pray that each of us here at FUMC of Sylva will use their special gifts and abilities to serve our Lord by serving others. To view our Servant Catalog and find ways that you can serve, visit our Ministry Opportunities page. For instance: the Ramp Builders, a group of retired church men who work with the Jackson County Department of Aging to build ramps for the disabled, are pictured above with just a few finished ramps over the past few years. In late 2013, the Ramp Builders completed their longest ramp ever constructed, a 100' ramp for two members of Sylva First United Methodist Church. Due to the dedication and our Ramp Builders, this ramp (below photo) was completed after five long days of work in very cold conditions.

We are always looking for new areas in which to serve, so if you have something in mind that you would like to share, please contact us by phone (586-2358) or by email.

Adult Ministry

Our Adult Ministry offers many of the same service opportunities as offered to our senior adults. For instance; serve as an adult leader for Camp Patton Springs or a team leader for the Appalachian Service Project or volunteer for Vacation Bible School. We pray that each of us here at FUMC of Sylva, regardless of age or life situation, will use their God given gifts and abilities to serve others. All adults are encouraged to visit our Ministry Opportunities page to see the Servant Catalog. Pray the Lord will guide you into servant ministry to our church, community, nation and the world.
