First UMC Kid's Stuff! Where Kids Can Be Kids!

With great pleasure, I would like to announce that our new Children's Minister is Mindy Curtis and our Director of Nursery Ministries is Emily Stearns. We are very blessed to have these ladies serving in these areas! I am excited about the year to come!

The beginning of June was brought in with the closing bead ceremony and worship services at Camp Patton Springs. We celebrated the 30th year of this annual church retreat with 101 campers! Forty-four of these campers were high schoolers, which should tell you something about what a wonderful experience they believe CPS to be. The lessons learned this year about BEING AN EXAMPLE OF CHRIST and relationships built with new and old friends will stay with them forever. Time was also spent remembering Karla Allred and honoring her family members who were also at camp.

A pool-party has tentatively been scheduled for July 17 from 7-9pm at the Sylva Pool. More information will follow, so be on the look-out! This event will be for all children and parents!

Sunday school will continue throughout the summer. Our preschoolers will meet each Sunday in the Noah's Ark room, and our k-5th graders will meet in the 2nd/3rd grade classroom for one-room Sunday school. Please be sure to thank our teachers who are serving in our children's ministry!!

As always, if you are interested in using your gifts and talents to serve in our children's or nursery ministries, please contact Mindy Curtis or Emily Stearns. They will be happy to talk to you about the requirements as well as provide training.

FUMC KIDS

Each week here at First UMC Sylva is filled numerous ministries, small groups, times for fellowship, and ways to worship. Our children are an emphasis in our church and it shows with the constantly growing children's program. We offer activities not only on Sunday mornings, but also on a weekly and monthly basis. We try to expose our kids to as many different ways to learn about Jesus as possible, including just spending time in fellowship. It is important to us that our children grow up in the companionship of Christian friends!

In addition to focusing on growing up in Christ, we also spend a lot time emphasizing the importance of family relationships. Parents are meant to have the primary role in teaching and disciplining their children. Our job is to support parents in their efforts through effective partnering with families. Here at First UMC Sylva we strive to encourage family discipleship through our understanding, our attitudes, and our lifestyles. We welcome all family members into all ministries of our church.

On a monthly basis our children are invited to participate in an activity or outing such as swimming, bowling, hiking, picnicking, etc... There are many times when our children are able to come together to minister to people in need. We welcome children of any age to join us throughout the week, and hope that you will make First UMC Sylva your church home!
